December 2013 Volunteer of the Month

shems

Every month Zakat Foundation DE team will select one volunteer that illustrates superb community service.   DE ZF team seeks to recognize volunteers who have gone above and beyond to serve their community.

We understand the everyday demands and time constraints that our student volunteers face with all their academic courses and extracurricular activities. We value all volunteers and recognize with this honor those who take their volunteer activity seriously and show commitment to those they help.  We are proud to recognize our Volunteers of the Month.

Shems Alzahrani has been nominated as the volunteer of the month for December.  Shems is a wonderful, upbeat kid who is respectful and polite.  She has been actively involved in Fun Camp, Tutoring program and Rescue Rangers for the past year.  She served as a volunteer and helped students make the most of their time at the center. She was valuable to the success of the camp and wonderful addition to Rescue Rangers. She is always positive and helpful and looks for ways to help kids and adults. Shems works hard as well. She is diligent with her studies and is always working above and beyond what is expected of her. She has volunteered to do extra duties to help out other students and adults.  She is a responsible young lady who makes herself available to help out in any way she can. She is a wonderful addition to ZF Center.

November's ZF Volunteer of the Month is  Mazen Almakhadhi.  He is a senior at Alexis I DuPont high school who took time out from his busy schedule to commit to tutoring at Zakat Foundation's Fall Math Tutoring session.  Mazen illustrated great care and concern while teaching 5th graders.  He also stuck with his commitment and consistently came to the sessions.  ZF Team loves committed volunteers!

Bake Sale for Philippine Typhoon Survivors

On November 21, the Rescue Rangers helped arrange for a bake sale for Philippine Typhoon survivors.  Specifically, they tried to raise money to distribute 50 food packages in the Philippines.  Each food package cost $60.  The NE director, Murat Kose, was in Philippines at the time and was able to share his experiences while distributing food packages at the devastated areas.  Many kids from Delaware took out their own money to help pay for the food packages.
